Family Wealth Planning

Building your family’s legacy

Family Wealth Planning

Unlike most firms, we are not going to simply put in place one or more documents that may or may not actually work when your family needs it most. Because our attorneys also do Trust Litigation, we’ve seen too many well intended estate plans fail resulting in conflict and families in Court, and so we cannot recommend putting into place any specific document without looking at your whole overall situation and then designing the plan that is most right for your unique circumstances.

Our Family Wealth Planning Session is how our attorney meets with you, comprehensively looks at your whole overall circumstances, and then is able to be informed enough to make specific recommendations as to what estate planning decisions would serve your specific goals. You might need a Trust, for example, but we won’t know that until we’ve learned about your family dynamics and your assets and you’ve learned the law, and then together we will decide how you want things to go for the people you love in the event of your incapacity or death.

Another purpose of this meeting is to get you more financially organized than you have ever been before, to ensure that none of your assets eventually end up in the State Department of Unclaimed Property (there’s over $56 billion there right now because often family members can’t find assets after someone dies or becomes incapacitated), to look at all of your family assets, and to educate you on the law so you can choose the estate planning that is right for you and for the persons you love — and you will even choose the fee and the planning that you want.

During this meeting with our Personal Family Lawyer®, you will only choose to create a set of documents or conduct ongoing planning if the cost of doing that planning is less than the cost of what your family would have to handle after your incapacity or death.

The key here is you are making informed decisions, not based on a one size fits all solution, but based on the specifics of your family, your assets, and what you care about the most. And, whether you plan or not after your meeting with our attorney, you will have your financial life organized and have clarity that you likely do not have right now.
